»Seeding the Schäfersee«, communal planting and expert talk on the decolonisation of gardens. In cooperation with “Haus am See”
- For the opening of »Art in the Underground 2020/21: as above, so below«, this event will take a closer look at the biotope Schäfersee. Based on Sasha Amaya’s work »Neophytes«, the expert in plant ecology, Martin Lange, will give a tour through the local vegetation and especially talk about the plants that found a new home in the biotope and in Berlin. Together with the intercultural neighbourhood centre Haus am See the participants will extend their garden by planting together, and the ethnologist Julia Richard, will speak about the colonial trajectories and the memories of plants.

  Based on the audio tour of the artist Florine Schüschke, which can be experienced independently in Reinickendorf and Wedding, during this group walk will be a discussion with several experts. Against the backdrop of the extensive privatisation of state-owned land in the past, the participants will pass by an apartment building on Soldiner Str. that now belongs to a Luxembourg investment fund and walk up to the cooperative project PA58.
  
  Max Prause from the Bündnis Mietenwahnsinn Nord will report on the current situation of speculative vacancies in Berlin and the urban sociologist Joana Kusiak will tell about her research on legal instruments for the socialisation of private housing. With the artist Daniela Brahm, co-initiator of the community-oriented project ExRotaprint, will be a discussion on new ownership models.

  Based on the audio tour of the artist Florine Schüschke, which can be experienced independently in Reinickendorf and Wedding, we will have a discussion with several experts during this group walk. Against the backdrop of the extensive privatisation of state-owned land in the past, we will look at the consequences of privatisation policies using an apartment building in Kühleweinstrasse as an example and walk down to Provinzstrasse, where we will look at the shortage of commercial space in the area.
  
  Simone Hain, a historian of architecture and urban planning, will situate Berlin’s privatizations within a larger historical context. Malve Lippmann, from the project space bi’bak in Wedding, will give an insight into the situation for the local cultural community and interim use of vacant spaces. Sabine Horlitz from the newly created foundation Stadtbodenstiftung Berlin, will present the idea of the Community Land Trust, an alternative ownership model based on the common good.
